Invitation of applicants for Certificate Programme in Plant Process Operations

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

NGC, in collaboration with UTT and THA, is offering scholarships for Tobago nationals to attend the UTT Pt. Lisas Campus to pursue a Certificate Programme in Plant Process Operations commencing September 2009.  The programme is a one-year full-time programme comprising two (2) consecutive fifteen (15) week semesters at UTT followed by a two (2) month industry practicum at NGC.

The programme is intended to prepare graduates for possible operator positions in the process industries.  It provides a thorough understanding of process operations theory, processing equipment, an appreciation of the shift work environment and the responsibilities of process operators as well as proper grounding in plant safety.

Upon successful completion of the programme graduates will be given the opportunity to participate in further industry “on-the-job” training at NGC, both at existing facilities in Trinidad, and in Tobago following completion of the Tobago Gas Receiving Facility at Cove Eco-Industrial Estate.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The scholarships are open to Tobago nationals who meet the following prerequisites:

-          Are between the ages of 17 and 25 years.

-          Meet UTT’s admission requirements of five 5 CXC O’Levels including Math, English and Chemistry (Grades I or II and from 1998 Grade III) or, a recognized “Journeyman Diploma” in an engineering field or, have successfully completed UTT’s Pre-University Bridging Programme.

-          Successfully demonstrate through an interview, an aptitude and genuine interest in developing a career in the petrochemical/energy sector.

Please note that the programme is open to both sexes.

WHAT’S COVERED IN THE SCHOLARSHIP?

The scholarship will cover the following for each successful candidate:

-          Full cost of tuition               - Books and course materials

-          Student accommodation      - Subsistence stipends

-          Registration fees                 - Ground transportation (to and from campus)

-          Utilities and internet access  - Airline transportation (return tickets)

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

There is no guarantee of employment at NGC for graduates of the programme.  However, upon successful completion of the UTT Certificate Programme graduates will be given the opportunity to participate in an extended “on-the-job” training programme at NGC where they will be exposed to practical, state-of-the-art industry practice.

During this extended “on-the-job” training programme at NGC participants will be continuously assessed for possible employment opportunities in Tobago following completion of the Tobago Gas Receiving Facility at Cove Eco-Industrial Estate.

HOW TO APPLY?

Persons meeting the above entry requirements are encouraged to complete Applications Forms for the programme.  All Application Forms must be filled out in duplicate.   Copies of Qualifications, Birth Certificate, National ID and/or Passport must be submitted along with the Application Form.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS

All completed applications must be submitted no later than Friday 7th August 2009.

PROGRAMME DURATION AND CERTIFICATION

Successful applicants will be required to commence the programme on September 1, 2009.  The programme will last approximately one (1) year in duration.  Candidates who successfully complete the programme will be awarded a Certificate in Plant Process Operations from the University of Trinidad and Tobago.
