The NGC CAER Programme
The CAER Committee for NGC's Fence line Communities recently held a meeting with the residents of Bamboo Settlement#1. The session was held at the Bamboo Settlement #1 Presbyterian Primary School with twenty eight (28) residents attending. The objective of the CAER Prgoramme is to inform Schools and Communities along our pipeline Right of Way (ROW) and facilities, of the possible health, safety and environmental risks that the NGC operations imposes on their lives and to prepare them to deal with any emergency arising in an informed, prepared and responsive manner.

The objectives of the team for this year are to cover three communities that are located near three significant valve stations, as well as five schools that are nearest the pipelines. This session is the first community session that would have been conducted by the group for the year and centered around the Caroni Valve Station.

The Session which lasted for about one and a half hours, started with an introduction by a member of the Bamboo Settlement #1 Community Council, and was followed by an introduction and meeting overview by Public Information Officer of NGC, Bhagwandeen Frankie. Subsequently, the Head of Environment, Health and Safety, Antonia Lucky was the highlight of the evening's session as her presentation focused on Community Awareness and Emergency Response measures as would be required by residents living near to the Caroni Valve Station.

Through out the lectures, the presenters invited questions from the floor, in order to create a learning experience for all attendees. Feedback provided by the residents via a survey, to record their favorability of the session as well as any additional concerns/issues they might have, which were not covered in the session.

The CAER programme thus focused on the building of a positive relationship with the residents, with the mail main goal being to give them the necessary awareness to prepare for and appropriately respond to the unlikely event there was a natural gas emergency.

The programme targets two more communities for the year which includes Seecharan Trace. Moruga and Trinity, in which valve stations are located, as well as five schools that are located within 500 metres of NGC's pipelines.
