Press Release: NGC hosts 4th Annual Natural Gas Tertiary-Level Workshops

The National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (NGC) opened its doors to 45 tertiary level students from across the country on June 22, 2009 to take part in the first of four, week-long Natural GAs Workshops for tertiary level students. These workshops, which are being conducted in partnership with the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT), will run from June 22- July 17, 2009; and form part of NGC's Public Education Programme which seeks to foster Natural Gas literacy in Trinidad and Tobago.

The workshops, in its fourth year, have, throughout its lifespan, expanded not only in terms of the information provided to students, but also the number of applicants by young people desiring to be part of the tertiary level programme. Inclusive of the 200 students scheduled to take part in the workshop this year, NGC has hosted a total of 550 students since the workshops were initiated in 2006.

The workshops are designed to provide participating students with a basic tertiary level understanding of the natural gas industry, with a particular emphasis on the gas-based energy sector in Trinidad and Tobago.

The students learn about natural gas and the local gas value chain, the importance of the natural gas industry to the economy, the financial, legal and regulatory requirements, Environment, Health, Safety and Security (EHSS) perspectives and the career opportunities in the industry.

In fact, NGC's partnership with UTT has assisted in the development of an excellent and industry-relevant five -day curriculum, as well as the provision of lecturers who are expert in their fields. This notwithstanding, NGC has provided it sown expert personnel, thereby providing students with both academic and technical/professional views of the gas industry. Students, therefore, from whatever discipline, are expected to participate fully for a rewarding experience.

Certificates of Participation will be distributed at the end of the workshops.
